Project Detail
SITE: Landfill
COMMISSIONING: 2020
Project Scope
The plant in question was an integral part of a disposal complex that provides an integrated waste cycle.
The contamination of the site is linked to the presence of volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the underlying aquifer, and therefore a Pump & Treat System featuring a stripping section was planned.
The System
The system consists of 5 extraction wells in which electric-submersible pumps are fitted to pump water to the plant. The water enters an equalization tank and then passes to the stripping section, where the removal of volatile substances dissolved in the liquid by means of an air current passing through it occurs. Subsequently, the air is sent to the filters for treatment and release into the atmosphere; in the same way, the water downstream of the stripper is conveyed to the sand and carbon filters, and then discharged on the surface.
An automatic backwashing system was also used, in order to make the functioning of the plant as autonomous as possible (remotely controllable through an installed PLC and data modem).
