Design, manufacturing and commissioning of 4 groundwater treatment plants for two thermal power stations.

Project Detail

SITE: Thermal Power Station
CONTAMINANTS: Heavy hydrocarbons (Oil fuel)
COMMISSIONING: 2016

Project Scope

Design, manufacturing and commissioning of 4 groundwater treatment plants for two thermal power stations.

The plants were designed with materials and equipment resistant to corrosion by seawater.

Each system includes total fluid pneumatic pumps, a feed tank within an oil/water separator prior to further treatment through activated carbons. All plants are equipped with full telemetry systems, allowing remote access capable to send alarm messages via SMS.

Total fluid pumps were selected due to harsh working conditions: presence of viscous heavy hydrocarbons (weathered fuel), seawater and tidal influence. Geostream designed an electrical heating resistance attached to the bottom of some of the pumps to heat the viscous fluid within the well up to 50° C and enhance oil recovery.

More than 75.000 litres of free-phase product were recovered from the aquifer.

TECHNICAL NOTE

The systems were designed to remove high viscosity free-phase product from groundwater. One of the systems was integrated with electrical heating resistance to enhance oil recovery.
